The project in Penang is taking shape as I write these words, and we have assembled a programme which will evolve around the Christmas cantata by Alessandro Stradella, 'Ah, troppo e ver'. The cantata requires a concerto grosso, a concertino group, an arpa doppia, cembalo obbligato, and a host of singers representing the characters Lucifer, Maria Vergine, two shepherds, Joseph..practically the whole gamut of a nativity play.
The next task - an arduous one - will be the making of the parts for the players; my plea for parts from various online resources, including from the early music editor Brian Clarke and Michael Schneider, also various librarian friends, had been met with a negative. It is quite an obscure piece, and we will probably need to arrange it because there we will not have all the instruments listed.
